Yes, it’s a scam. Someone calls about your computer having trouble. Pop up about needing to update Flash. That nice Nigerian Prince is willing to pay you to hold his money for a bit. It’s all a scam, it’s always a scam. Continue reading It’s A Scam→
Death is inevitable. Take either a large enough group of people and a short period of time, or a smaller group and a longer time frame. In either case, at some point, someone will die. Continue reading Dead Clients→
The entire reason this post, and by extension the previous PAHC post were made is because of what happened on 2018-08-14. Continue reading PAHC: Review of 2018→
If you have ever visited OFAL, you may have noticed a number towards the top right, directly above the search box. This number indicates what percentage of OFAL is ‘Fake News‘. Or not, as the number changes randomly. Continue reading MOP: Fake News→
File Organization/Management: File Names for Planning Future Actions
I don’t know about you, but I find that I am regularly dealing with files that (for whatever reason) I need to come back to at some vague point in the future. Not a precise date, as that could go on a calendar, but a more general ‘a few months’ or ‘next year’ type of thing. Continue reading FOM: File Names for Planning Future Actions→
When I use a computer belonging to someone else, I am often amazed by the amount of junk that websites toss at their users. Ads, pop-ups, singing and dancing, junk everywhere. When I setup this website, I decided I wanted to know how many people visited it. Was it only my mother, when I reminded her? Or was half the County showing up every time I posted? While the former is much more likely then the later, I needed a way to find out. Continue reading PAHC: Data Tracking→
Wiser men then I have pointed out how ‘security through obscurity isn’t security’, and they are right. On it’s own, obscurity does not create security, although it may grant the illusion of such. But as part of a more comprehensive system, obscurity can be a useful tool. Continue reading STO: Admin Accounts→
As it is that time of year again, I’ve recently finished my income taxes. While I could say much about tax policy, ethics and practicality, this isn’t the place. No, here I talk about the filling out of the forms. Or put slightly differently, the tools used to fill out the forms. Continue reading AAR: TurboTax→
As some may have noticed, I regularly attend the Town of Mendon Board meetings. And as with most (all?) governmental groups, they produce an agenda for their meetings. Again, as is common, that agenda is posted on their website. The Village and School do the same (as do many other groups, but those are local ones). All this is good and I approve. Continue reading CFE: Disappearing Agendas→
