Tools I Find Useful: Auslogics Duplicate File Finder
I’ve got an every changing pile of files on my computer. Add some, for various reasons. Remove some, usually because their reason is now past. From what I can tell, most people do the same, even as the details vary between people.
Over time, this adding and removing of files will lead to duplicates. Downloaded twice, without realizing it. Accidentally held down control while dragging. Windows 7 is fine
If you are using Windows 7, you are likely aware that it is approaching End of Support. Microsoft is using this opportunity to continue their push for Windows 10. They have a variety of reasons for this. From the obvious financial benefits (as they are selling it), to the streamlining of support (lower variety in issues), not to mention the more controversial (what happens with the data they collect). Tools I Find Useful: Remove Empty Directories
Ever find an empty folder and wonder why it’s there? Realized you made a folder, but never got around to using it? Between backup tools, duplicate finders, and a habit of deleting files (not folders), I run into this sort of thing on a regular enough basis. I don’t know about you, but I find that I am regularly dealing with files that (for whatever reason) I need to come back to at some vague point in the future. Intended Use: Steps to take when someone asks me to check their computer out. Not fixing any particular problem/issue, but give it a general overview and fix anything that crops up. If you’re doing this on your own, use a schedule that works for you. Shouldn’t gain anything by doing it more then once a month. Worth doing if it’s been more then six months.
