I help people solve their computer related challenges. That’s it, in a nutshell. But, because details can be of use, I’ll elaborate…
I live in Honeoye Falls, NY. For those clients living in (or near) the village I can walk. For those further away we need to arrange transportation. Or they can bring their devices to me, we can work over the phone, or I can use remote control tools. It all depends on what approach makes the most sense in the individual situation.
There are three basic methods that I use to assist people:
1) Consulting: Discussing the issue(s) and ways to solve it.
2) Teaching: Show how an issue(s) can be handled, explain and answer questions as needed.
3) Independent Action: Solve the challenge at hand, and report back.
Which leaves the laundry list of things I know enough about to offer help with:
Modern Operating Systems: While I have the most experience with Windows, I know enough about Apple, Linux, and Android.
Modern Devices: Familiar with Desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones. And many gadgets are close enough (fitbit, cameras, TV’s, etc)
Setup new hardware: Whole systems, adding new parts (memory, drives, etc). Also can help choose what system is best for you.
Disaster Recovery: Whether from worn out parts, non-booting system, viruses, etc, I can help get you back on your feet. *Not all problems are fixable, some require replacements*
Backups: Better then recovering, have a spare copy. I can help you put together a system for making regular backup copies.
Secure System: Can setup Anti-virus, Firewall, Encryption, and other security tools.
Regular Maintenance: Computers have improved greatly over the years, but preventative maintenance still has value.
File Management: As time goes by our collection of files tends to grow. I can help you with organization. Whether pictures, documents, or whatever other kind of files you have.
Websites: Create and maintain your website, for personal or business use.
Basic Computer Usage: How to browse the internet, use email, keep things updated, and anything else you might need to know.
Wipe for Disposal: Before disposing of a system it’s a good idea to make sure there isn’t any data on it that you wouldn’t want others to have.
General Troubleshooting: When something’s not working right, sometimes the hardest part is figuring out where the problem is.
If you made it this far and couldn’t find what you were looking for, you are welcome to ask. I may have overlooked adding it above. If I can help, I will. If I can’t, I’ll tell you as much. I’m always looking for more interesting things to add to the above list.
