Public Service Announcement: PDF reader not needed

      Your phone doesn’t need a PDF reader. It has a web browser, which can also read PDF files.

      I’m mentioning this because I’ve seen a number of people needing ‘PDF readers’ removed from their phones. And I put that in quotes because they were really ad platforms. Pushing full screen ads every few seconds. Not outright malicious, so not caught by security software. But annoying, to the point of rendering the phone nearly useless.

      Easy enough to remove, even if the ads slowed the process down. The ‘PDF readers’ uninstalled like any program should. Reinforcing they aren’t truly malicious, at least from a technical standpoint.

      So if something tells you to install a PDF reader on your phone? Ignore it. It’s either an ad, a scam, or mistaken.
