Windows 10 is fine too

Windows 10 is fine too

About six years ago Windows 7 reached End of Support, and I said it was fine to continue using it. Now the time has arrived for Windows 10 to reach it’s End of Support as well. And I think it’s fine to keep using Windows 10 too.

Yes, certain qualifiers apply. But realistically, if you haven’t switched to Windows 11 yet, you are probably good for another few years. At which point, you’ll likely be wanting to replace your Windows 10 hardware anyways. Which will move you to Windows 11 (or possibly 12?) in the process.

Fundamentally, the logic from what I said before remains the same. Whatever operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux, whatever) you use was shipped with bugs in it. And while the perpetual update cycle has fixed some of those, there are always more. Does this mean it’s been a bug ridden mess since day one? Or do the fixes introduce more flaws? Either way, Windows 11 is the same. The difference, and the only difference for now, is Windows 10 won’t be receiving future fixes.

In the end, you are the weakest link, not your operating system. Good practices should compensate for operating system flaws (in Win10, Win11, Win43, etc). Backup your data, use a router, have a junk blocker in your browser, don’t click on links in email, and so on.

And we’ll be back here for Windows 11 in due time. Unless Microsoft makes good on the ‘last version of Windows‘ claim.
