Support As A Business: At Your Worst
I’m sure you’ve printed hundreds of documents. You’ve sent (and received) thousands of emails. You’ve used your laptop for years. But I don’t see that. I see the time you can’t print, you can’t send email, or your laptop burst into flames. Or at least the smoldering wreckage afterwards.
It is the nature of providing support. I don’t see the countless hours of everything working as it should be. I do see when things go horribly wrong.
Maybe it’s your fault. Maybe it’s not. Either way, I need to remember that just because it’s what I see doesn’t mean it’s always that way.
I may be seeing you at your worst. But you’ve managed for years (decades even) without me. You’ll continue along fine once I’m gone (or at least find someone else). You just need help right here, at this moment.
Which is fine, we all need help at times. You need my help now. I’ll need someone’s help in due time (might even be from you).
Just a reminder for me. Don’t judge only on what I see, because there is much more that I don’t (can’t) ever see.
